In Anlehnung an PDG – die Geschichte Peters des Großen – beginnt Elias mit dieser Episode die Geschichte der Yuan, Ming und Qing: drei berühmte chinesische Dynastien, von denen nur eine chinesisch war. Wir beginnen mit dem Aufstieg Kublai Khans, den wir alle aus den Erzählungen Marco Polos kennen. Eigentlich im Schatten seines Bruders Möngke Khan stehend, gelang es dem Enkel Dschingis Khans, die mongolische Herrschaft in China zu sichern und eine eigene Dynastie zu gründen, die einige Jahrzehnte herrschen sollte.
